I'm a huge fan of wikis not only as a technology, but as a way to change the top-down nature of corporate communication. We installed MediaWiki at my previous employer, and although it was met with understandable apprehension by management (who's going to use this?, who will fill in the data?, etc) the employees themselves realized they could make edits and began to share knowledge using it. They documented processes, traded procedures, and even collaboratively edited documents and best practices using the wiki. To new employees trying to learn the intricacies of the job, the wiki was a savior. |
