gingembre says:
Who in their right mind would argue with the observations in this article?

More: "The Republican Party has become an aggregation of people who prefer to live in a world of fantasy -- and their first fantasy, the Ur-myth on which the entire conceit rests, is (classically) "we are the realists."

"It degrades, into farce and Newspeak, from there. The perpetrators and defenders of the outing of a CIA agent are "patriots." Tom DeLay is a "leader" and Newt Gingrich is a "visionary." The President plays guitar while New Orleans drowns, causes a hundred thousand Americans and Iraqis to be killed or injured, and outsources torture, and it's the Democrats who, per the repellent Ramesh Ponnuru, are the "party of death."

"It has gotten so that you have to muster all the compassion and understanding of which you are capable just to think of the Republicans as a party of greedy corporatists manipulating the credulous, the provincial, and the bigoted. That's the nice way of putting it.”

I read it as more hate from the Huffers. Takes a lot of nerve for some on the Left to call Republicans hate-filled.

Man, I wish I could pop this about 10 times. Hit's the nail on the head directly.

Jatfla,
Why do you think the left is hate filled? I'm about as left as can be but I don't consider myself hate-filled at all, even though I've been accused of it many times (but never by you)
I see it like this. America is changing and it's not for the better, IMO. Speaking out about it is always good, even if it offends.

And debby, I understand what you're saying. But I'm not a warmonger, I am compassionate, I care about other people and their plight. I do appreciate capitalism and free-enterprise. I glad there are rich people....even rich hollywood stars because *they* have money to build businesses, give to charities, etc.

I don't *hate* people. Some of the characterizations made in the article are manipulations of the truth; and besides, it's fun and sells to accuse and distort. s/off

I didn't say the left was filled with hate, but the notions and ideas that pour forth from such publications are designed to build hate. That's my opinion.

My neighbor is the kindest and gentlest of men, but he thi...

I think this just exemplifies what I have said before that while the right sees the terrorists as the enemy, the left sees the right as the enemy.

I believe that you are compassionate Jatfla. I sit here typing on my keyboard tying to think of how I can reach the compassion in others, and I so often fail. I think sometimes those on the left fail to realize that the right often feel that their sense of morality is being threatened by the left somehow. And I think those on the left feel threatened by all the freedoms we have been asked to relinquish by those in political power. Personally, I see the rich exploiting the poor every day Jatfla, and I'm convinced we have a biblical call to end the injustice! It's such a deep divide, isn't it? But I pray we can come together as a nation.

And debby, I see the *rich* as those who are best able to help the poor and many do and have. While many on the left view America as the vacuum cleaner of all the world's resources, I view it as the primary resource of service, humanitarian aid and freedom. It's a complete difference in world-view.

And the churches have traditionally been a major source of helping the poor. In many cases it falls horribly short on it's calling; but the church has also had their *service* made conditional by the 'state'. By asking it to violate it's core-beliefs in order to help the poor, that leaves everyone less served.

I do agree with n2. In the current climate, the so-called left views conservative...

When I'm speaking about the rich exploiting the poor I'm speaking to domination systems as opposed to individuals Jatfla. I'm speaking of God and the ambiguity of power.

"For no thought is contented. The better sort,
As thoughts of things divine, are intermix'd
With scruples, and do set the word itself
Against the word:
As thus, "Come little ones", and then gain,
"It is as hard to come as for a camel
To thread the postern of a needle's eye."
William Shakespeare

Oh yeah, if you pile ever more goodies on the rich man's table, eventually some crumbs will begin to fall off. And some will say, "0h how wonderful the system is working".

That's quite a ridicule of my opinions and a distortion.

I rest my case.

I do agree with n2. In the current climate, the so-called left views conservatives much more dangerous to their way of life than any outside threat.
The reason has to do with freedom.

The well cared-for slave does not necessarily envy the struggle that comes with liberty. We admit, conformity and tacit obedience has its rewards.

But the struggling man who has his freedom may not envy the well to do slave. He is the Captain of his life, the master of his soul.

But both should be the result from the freedom of choice, not the tyranny of one over the other.

Freedom, therefore, accommodates both. And so the Left values freedom, for the sake of us both.

If the Left is stro...

"All our enemies"?

Good grief, don't you realise that this sounds a little too close to the rhetoric issuing from Germany in the 1920s and 30s?

Perhaps you would be happier with a benign or not so benign dictatorship .... can't get a more united government than that!

In my country (IMO) the best and most honest government has been when we have had a coalition government During such times the government has not been able to steamroll through its own nefarious agenda without consulting with others..
