Tali99 says: Chiseled beauty, a business oriented mind and a buzzability is what the 1990’s super models brought into the pinup world. Do you consider fashion modeling and pinup modeling to be the same or are they different genres? Both can be erotic, but to me they have different objectives. I don't know about objectives- how do you see it? I tend to make a distinction between classic pinups and neo pinups. pinups in the classic form belong to the 40's and 50's, today, it's still a pinup, but it looks different. Like the classic 90'n pinup is Crawford on the motor bike. It may be only my opinion, but I see the objective of pinup modeling (and this includes the painters like Vargas, Petty, Frush and Elvgren as well as the photographers like Gowland, Marks, Bernard and Yeager) as, primarily, more in the line of entertainment (ok, titillation) whereas fashion modeling's primary objective is being a sales pitch with its entertainment or erotic value as a secondary consideration. It's the former that one sees on the walls of dorm rooms and workplaces and the latter in fashion publications and ads. This is not to say that there isn't a lot of crossover. |
