kkcapricorn says: I agree with this. Sometimes the side effects end up making you sicker than the original problem. I took prednisone for ulcerative colitis -- my face ballooned, my appetite became insatible, my skin began to bruise & became thin. My doctor simply said "those are common side effects, we'll ween you off the prednisone. Then I was on remicade, I became very ill, developed diabetes.....all due to both medications. I could tell you a similar story of my experiences. Not my GP, the chemist or the consultants were really interested in really solving the problem. If I relied on them to direct me then I could be dead by now. Affirmative action by the patient is necessary. Having suffered for 5 weeks, I took myself off ALL drugs. It still took another week for the side effects to go. I don't know if any testing is done on the cocktail of drugs that are prescribed. My questions; a) was it drug X b) was it X increasing from 5 to 10 c) was it X in combination with the others d) was X part of the problem at all. No answers, but I've stayed off it. Not as dramatic but similar was the cholesterol tables. I com... I must be lucky. My doctor is trying to reduce the number of meds I need to take and has actually redused by a third the number of prescriptions I take, and he hopes to reduce them further. He's as worried about side effects as I am. If I misdiagnose a car I have to refix it - often for no charge. I wonder why doctors are not held accountable for their guesses? People made cars, might be easier to fix? But, there's a new medicare rule starting that they won't pay to correct errors, will have to be done for free. Everyone will probably follow suit. i take my medicine for the side effects. I guess we can ignore what all those pretty looking commercials tell you about what to do if "side effects occur". Don't bother calling your doctor. I see this all too often, a form of professional denial. Though sometimes you have to weight the lesser of 2 evils. I still don't get the number of prescription medications that are advertised to the general public. Beautiful scenery and pleasant music as they announce a long list of horrible side effects. nothing but truth! There's a wonderfully calming appetite stimulant which has the side effect of a pleasant euphoria, and few if any noticeable negative side effects with moderate use, but it can't be legally sold. Hmm... that sucks. Talking about side-effects - Who would want a drug that causes anal seepage? KKCapricorn, you are so right, and like righthand they can make you worse, most of them dont listen, I have had a terrible argument with those supposedly in the know, now one of my drugs is known to be so addictive and harmful, that I am going to have to take a liqiud form, so I can come off it safely a few drops less at a time, it could take at least a year. Drug companys do tests, but it seems quite often the truth is hidden.I am sure we can all guess a couple of reasons why! |
