I wonder how this guy was able to say this with a straight face? He must have an incredibly weak grasp of irony, or he's planning on arresting Henry Kissinger next!

Well, in a strictly legal sense, there's a difference between what private citizens can do and what the president and his lackies can do in their official capacities. But it still is ironic.

Although I am not a proponent of capital punishment, the comparison you make, ouyangwulong, is akin to equating murder and capital punishment. You and I may disagee with the use of the latter, but it is dishonest to make the two acts equal. Call the Iraq War wrongheaded, but don't use it to justify lawlessness.

People, esp. politicians, make a lot of noble statements but the current ruthless and merciless US (and Israeli) policies in the Middle East should make us consider what communist revolutionary Chairman Mao said:
"The only real power comes out of the barrel of a gun."

There is a truth there we should be able to plainly see. Hopefully it is not the Whole Truth, but it certainly rules today.

There are many war crimes going on here. It's a pity we are apparently powerless to stop it. But it would be nice to see the power of the law applied to issues like torture, rape and murder in Abu Ghraib, at least.
