clip-on-tie says: Or, another time: "I suspect that some of those Republican critics have a short memory, because as I recall I'm inheriting a $1.3 trillion deficit, annual deficit, from them." In other words, Obama cannot defend his decision to double down on deficit spending. So, he simply trashes Republicans. As if voters right now are looking for somebody just not as bad as the GOP. As if his campaign slogan wasn't "Change You Can Believe In," but rather "Vote for Me. I'm Not as Bad as Republicans." Anyway, Republicans tried this out-of-control spending derby -- and just look where that got them. In a few short years, they lost control of every single lever of power exactly because of this kind of behavior. Yet in even less time, Obama has put away his promises of Hope and Change and tossed aside the idealism of his campaign about remaking politics in Washington. "Surveying the political landscape here today, Obama is thinking of that adage cherished by cutthroats everywhere." "If you and a buddy are walking through the woods and encounter a hungry, angry bear, you don't have to outrun the bear. You simply have to outrun your buddy." Let's see, Bush inherited a surplus and a generally healthy economy. Bush left a huge deficit and a basket case of an economy for which trillions need be spent to put it back on track. Yup, must be Obama's fault. Let's not forget Clinton though. It's his fault too somehow. Bush inherited a recession which was compounded by 9/11. The Bush/GOP congress deficit bottomed out in 04 after which is started decreasing. Pelosi and the democrats took over on 07. That was the last year with a GOP budget and also the lowest deficit since the recovery from the 2000 recession and 9/11 began. Then in 2008 Bush had the largest deficit of his term which also happened to be the first democrat budget. This year's budget didn't pass until just recently, so that can't be blamed on Bush either. Now, Bush did help get the ball rolling with these insane ideas for bailouts, but Obama can't pin that all on Bush since he was right there urging him on to spend that money faster and he t... Bush inherited a basically healthy economy. It was retroactively re-defined into a recession six months into the Bush administration using a new standard (what a surprise). Bush ran nothing but deficits during his whole tenure while Clinton ran surpluses toward the end of his. And Bush handed off a basket case of an economy. You think the economy was fine in 2000? Well, I guess trying to discuss reality with you is out of the question then. |
