Calderon has made crushing drug cartels the centerpiece of his presidency but violence has grown since he sent out some 25,000 troops and police officers against them.

Medina Mora said higher prices for cocaine and methamphetamines on U.S. streets showed the crackdown was shutting off supply routes and hurting cartel revenues.

Calderon is smacking the hornets nest and it is bound to stir up the bad guys. He needs to learn from lessons that we received in Iraq. Push the bad guys hard. Let the good guys (the populace) know that the army is going to keep them safe. Once the people feel some security they will step up in scores and rid the country of these thugs.
