Did you follow any of the links Deepti?? Yes it is for real..........The one thing that disturbs me about this article is that there are laws that are supposed to make sure this registry is known about, AND it is also an invasion of privacy for both parties....What if the woman doesnt want her name on the list??? It should be standard procedure to allow a father his rights after a simple DNA test...Granted if the adoption was not recent and the child is already acclimated to their respective adoptors, there would have to be a slow reunification process.....

I believe it would be best to inform the adoptors that the father is "unknown" and they may have to deal with it if the father become...

just google putative fathers registry...you might be surprised.
I think that the last link I listed is an interesting read.

[[[ Virginia has recently created the putative father registry. On a website explaining the registry, the goal is said to be to protect father’s rights. See the website here http://www.dss.virginia.gov/family/ap/putative_brochure.pdf . But if we think through the registry, I think that we will find that the real goal of the registry is to make it harder for biological fathers to assert their rights when the mother decides to give a child up for adoption, have a new partner adopt the child, or when the mother will in some other way terminate parental rights.
