I still cannot believe that this practice is still rife in 2007. It is vile, dangerous and nothing short of misogynistic. I am a huge advocate against FGM (female genital mutilation) or female circumcision. This poor child has died because of an ancient and barbaric ritual that puts women at all kinds of health risks and DEATH as we can see from this post. I have tearsin my eyes as the anger rages from within me. I am a registered nurse and have completed a forensic nursing program as well and the terrors and horrors of this horrible ritual MUST BE ENDED. Poor little children sometim... All circumcision - male or female - should be illegal. Only then can preventing interference with our bits, be taken seriously. The integrity of the human body should never be breached before the age of consent. This is the one we heard about, I wonder how many innocent girls suffer this fate?/ This must have been a particularly, gory, botched job to upset a whole country--its been going on in Africa forever. I don't condone it at all, but for a country to finally ban it, the girl must have suffered terribly, and the government or somebody published the pictures! I can't remember the famous model's name from Africa, she's had many surgeries because of the urinary complications and will have more--she started working against this in Africa after she became a big time model. |
