bignosemousie says: Angry Chicken lists some websites that sell toys that aren't made in China. I was just thinking about this today and so it was great to see this clipped. We need to boycott all things Chinese made. Watch how quickly thier 'economy' slows down. Start making things back here in the U.S. and give jobs to the folks here. I know plenty of people who would rather work in a mfg or factory setting then slinging burgers. Yeah how dare China try to sell things to other countries haha. Why should I care if the toys I buy aren't made by some little old dude who live down the lane. Info from Willow Tree Toys (posted on Angry Chicken's blog) It is virtually impossible to find toys today that do not include some Chinese component. With the cost of labor today, it is unlikely that manufacturing will be removed from China. However all of the recent bad press will certainly bring attention to the safety issues and will likely result in better inspections and safer toys. Since it would be extremely difficult/impossible to avoid all Chinese products, my suggestion is to keep doing the research and make sure that you are buying from reputable companies. The company's safety reputation will help insure your child's safety more than the origin of manufacture. Insi... I can't believe the lack of manufacturer attention to this, especially from those that don't make goods in China. If my stuff was made elsewhere I'd post that fact all over my web site and advertising. If I was a retailer, I'd have signs pointing out every toy not made in china as well. Of course, those toys would fly off the shelves. It's hard to find sites that help you find non-chinese toys, and a lot of the sites that do focus mainly on wooden toys. I found a couple sites that help find mainstream toys that my kids actually ask for. I've found a lot at www.toys-without-china.com and FAO Shwartz. FAO has a country search, but who can afford $300 for a stuffed bear? Having only just begun my Christmas shopping, I took the time to check where the products that interested me were from. I was amazed! Dillards, Target, Kohl are the three stores that I actually looked at the labels. Nearly everything was 'made in china'. A couple of things from Mexico, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. I admit I'm convoluted. No, I don't want to *help* the economy of China (a very potential enemy of the US) to the detriment of our own US-made products. But do I also undermine the total economy of the US by not buying imported products? I'm too lazy to read volumes on this issue; so what say you all? |
