You guys gotta be kidding!

There are women in Afghanistan where it takes BALLS to openly protest against Sharia law for their right to not be raped by their husbands every four days, where just speaking out could get you beheaded or publicly beaten (even some of the police threw stones at them -- they were supposed to be protecting them), but there they were protesting for the freedom to OWN their own body...

...even I wish I had that kind of courage...

..and you guys are complaining that getting £2.5 Million is demeaning?

I for one am celebrating her freedom to not only own her own body, but to use it in a fashion that best suits her needs at the EXPENSE of a willing man. Not the othe...

I for one am celebrating her freedom to not only own her own body, but to use it in a fashion that best suits her needs at the EXPENSE of a willing man. Not the other way around.

Compare that with little girls of 6 years being sold to 50 year old men, and with little hope of education or freedom from being someone's personal property for life.

I'm sorry, but I applaud this woman for understanding her value and offering it on her own terms. She is her own master -- and right now, the master of men. I take my hat off to her and bow.

(I'd have probably paid that much for my wife in a dowry if I had it -- but don't tell her.)

She is! And so are we all. When you go to work every day, you are selling your services accordingly, and hopefully to the highest bidder.

When you go to school to get a degree, more often than not it's so you can become a more valuable commodity.

On occasion someone does it for fun or for a passion, like sports or art. But if they are really good at it... it's like money in the bank.

Yes, she most certainly is a commodity. Just like the rest of us.

Ah! Not in her world. No one owns her, and that's the greater point. Those Afgan women were an example of 'being' owned, which is the opposite of owning one's self. This student owns her self!

I think the real power is in owning herself and giving it of her own free will.

She can market her services for a profit, as most of us do every day when we go to work, or make a movie, or write a book.

But comparatively speaking, it just doesn't seem that her one night stand would be such an emotionally harrowing experience, considering the frequency it's invited by both genders and the fact that she can simply say no to person A and yes to person B. The choices, the selections, the entire situation is completely hers.

The article noted that her sister paid for her college education after prostituting for three weeks. So perhaps an emotional / sexual connection is not so highly valued by some (if at all) as by others.

Even still... her choice.


Just as an aside: Young men put their life and limb on the line for years (by joining the armed services) for the money to go to college, never mind the trauma inflicted mentally.

Contrast with a one night stand with the selection of one's choice? Is it at all remotely possible that the sex might be fantastically wonderful, if not just good? I mean, must the sex be automatically awful? Why couldn't it be a wonderful experience?
