So she puts up herself for sale to men who are willing to pay a big price to have a virgin.

Including "weirdos", "those who get really graphically sexual about
what they want to do to me" and "lots of polite requests from rich
businessmen".
Well, I suppose a couple million can buy a lot of Listerine and it never ceases to amaze me that a lot of people have their price on just what they will do for money.

Not judging her, but just making a comment.

You guys gotta be kidding!

There are women in Afghanistan where it takes BALLS to openly protest against Sharia law for their right to not be raped by their husbands every four days, where just speaking out could get you beheaded or publicly beaten (even some of the police threw stones at them -- they were supposed to be protecting them), but there they were protesting for the freedom to OWN their own body...

...even I wish I had that kind of courage...

..and you guys are complaining that getting £2.5 Million is demeaning?

I for one am celebrating her freedom to not only own her own body, but to use it in a fashion that best suits her needs at the EXPENSE of a willing man. Not the othe...

I'm sorry, but I applaud this woman for understanding her value
I see it as reinforcing the concept that a woman is a commodity, something to purchase, something to own. I think the real power is in owning herself and giving it of her own free will.

She is! And so are we all. When you go to work every day, you are selling your services accordingly, and hopefully to the highest bidder.

No different than what she's doing.

When you go to school to get a degree, more often than not it's so you can become a more valuable commodity.

On occasion someone does it for fun or for a passion, like sports or art. But if they are really good at it... it's like money in the bank.

Yes, she most certainly is a commodity. Just like the rest of us.

something to purchase, something to own.
Ah! Not in her world. No one owns her, and that's the greater poi...

Aces,
You are not taking into account the emotional/sexual connection a woman feels.

I don't think any woman can sell her body and not disturb that connection in some way or another. She may feel that she is just making a business transaction, but it will take it's toll one day.

Well now, that's certainly true. If it's any different than a man's emotional / sexual connection, I couldn't imagine.

I'm speaking strictly in terms of her ability to be the captain of her own body and to make choices that benefit her according to her own wants and needs.

I suppose a one night stand might traumatize a women vs. that emotional / sexual connection you're talking about.

(And I suppose comparing her case to female children and women who have no say in the matter whatsoever might be unfair, since their emotional / sexual connection becomes obliterated by force for life.)

But compara...

I was just making the point that I don't think people often understand what they are getting into until they get problems. I mean, I know kids that join the military and then get all kinds of problems later and they just don't anticipate that.
Personally, no amount of money would be worth having intimacy problems later, but like you said, it's her choice, or so she thinks anyway.
I guess my point is that we all need money to pay bills, etc, whatever, and I've had this discussion with other's and it seems that a lot of people have their price, that is they will do things they wouldn't normally do for money. I mean, I guess it's just up to each individual to say that is wrong or right for themselves, but I feel it does have repercussions.

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not but there is such a thing as hymen replacement surgery.

Also, I think that the idea of "having" a virgin says much more about the man than it does the women. It seems to suggest to me that he is very insecure and afraid of being judged as inadequate. In this case there is probably a strong emphasis being put on bragging rights, such as, " look at what I can buy for my money".

Yeah, that was my first thought. But then, I would never marry a woman that was a virgin. Nor would I recommend it.

If they turn out to be sexually incompatible, they'd be stuck in a relationship that sucks, and there would be a lot of guilt and small problems turn into big problems until anything can serve as a reason for divorce.

Two unfulfilled people living a lie. Yeah, that would be an infidelity waiting to happen. (Even those preachers go for a prostitute every now and then. I'm sure it's because their sex life at home sucks -- and I don't mean in a good way.)
