Interesting - thanks. /ias/ interesting semantics To be taken with caution but it is the case that person, personality are etymologically derived from per-sona: the mask worn with a hole at the mouth for the voice to 'come through'. Whether we like it or nor, humanhood includes attributes of things like deceit, delusion, subterfuge, (though obviously we would, on a good day, prefer top deny this); our communicative behaviour is never as transparent or 'innocent' as what I imagine would be that of machines. Certainly primates practice such devious communication ruses, and probably so too do other animals: nevertheless, I think that personhood is more aptly reserved for humans since the complex and myriad complexity of our personae is such as... @abailart, to me the point in all of this is the question itself. More pointedly, that we are asking ourselves this question and are open to the perceptive changes that follow in its wake. Within this latest phrase lies that for which I am happy to be human |
