Everyone out!" said Carol Pancaldo, 40, who from her 28th floor office had watched the World Trade towers tumble nearly eight years ago. "I looked out and saw the tail of a plane. So I just picked up my bag and left, ran for the stairwell." The walk down the 28 flights of stairs with about 150 of her colleagues seemed to take "forever," Pancaldo said, because nobody knew what was happening outside. "You're thinking," Oh God, don't crash into my building," said Pancaldo, from Elmwood Park, an analyst for Kuehne & Nagel. She was outraged when she learned of the photo shoot. "Really, though, after 9/11? That's not a joke, that's not funny," she said. These people must have been aware of one of our biggest lessons from 9/11 - our multi-trillion dollar air defense system isn't worth a shit and can't be relied upon to defend against an air-liner in one of the busiest air-spaces in the world. 8TH WSJ UPDATE: Airplane 'Photo Op' Angers 9/11 Witnesses Mayor Michael Bloomberg, during a news conference Monday afternoon, said the FAA sent an email to an unnamed City Hall official late Thursday, detailing the publicity event, but asked the person to keep it confidential. The City Hall official, in turn, told New York Police. However, Bloomberg said he didn't find out about it until Monday morning when the planes were flying through Manhattan airspace and his handheld wireless device was flooded with complaints. "I'm annoyed - furious is a better word - that I wasn't told," Bloomberg said, calling the photo op... that is totally irresponsible! Just read an account of a worker there in one of the buildings and how they were ordered to evacuate. As they all tried calmly to go down the stairs, everyone was thinking the same thing. My question is why would it be "classified" and "secret" if it's being executed in broad daylight at app. 1000 ft? Did they think no one would notice? Apparently the same *event* scheduled for May over D.C. has been canceled. Honest to goodness...what was the point? Really! Why was it kept a secret until it occurred? Do you not believe in the terrorist bogey-man? Announce the event in the front page headlines and on every newscast and see how many guns, rockets, and every other piece of terrorist owned military gear would be pointed toward the target. What!!! You mean we have terrorists in the US?? Surely you jest. |
