Kelika says: "This is giving people false hope," said Bob Kendall, 48, who was diagnosed seven years ago. "To me this is really sad. If there was a breakthrough and a cure, it wouldn't be a televangelist announcing it, believe me. There are a lot of people up in arms." Giving hope and asking for a contribution. Evangelists at work. After the Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker PTL scandal my gullible mother (who still defends the Bakkers, saying that they *deserved* all the goodies because they were Christians and helped people and just because you're Christian doesn't mean you're perfect...) turned her TV dial to Robert Schuller and began sending him money instead. Earlier this year she was diagnosed with Parkinson's, so I'm sure that she has interpreted Schuller's statement as a divine message to her. She'll be doubling her contribution to Schuller each week and singing his praises even louder. Wow, Gingembre, I'm sorry that your mom has been taken in by the false prophets. Thanks, Kelika. I'm sorry, too. Not much I can do about it, though. It makes me feel very sad to see her in such poor health and to see her revere these televangelists. |
