Of course, God in a youths troubled life will hurt. Right? I mean Jesus tells every one to martyr ones self right? Doesn't Jesus tell us in his sermon on the mount to hate, and kill, and not to obey, right? I mean that has to be right. Right?

Federal $$ equals no religious programs. Even if the claim is "private donations support the religious part," the federal funding should ensure that there is no involvement of the kids being funded by same.

Would you support this if pagans taught about the Goddess using federal funds?

There is NO separation of church and state in the constitution. There is no guaranteed freedom FROM religion. The constitution says there should be no law establishing a state religion. So as long as all religions (or lack of religion) are treated equally, then there is nothing unconstitutional about federal dollars ending up helping a program which is related to a religion.

Fact is, with the extreme this false 'wall of separation' BS is being taken, we are actually moving to making atheism the official government established religion.

It has nothing to do with the Constitution. Gov't contract regulations have policies in place about specific funding of religious activities with federal dollars.

Now we wouldn't want to use every available source and asset to save our "troubled" youth from a life of crime and/or poverty, now would we? s/off

Just another example of what the *world* is really afraid of....Christianity and the helpful services it provides. There should be a list of all the organizations, hospitals, colleges, institutions, humanitarian movements, just from over the last 100 yrs. Take them from history and see how much poorer our society would be.

Some people consider the Bill of Rights as part of the Constitution. The 1st Amendment prohibits the establishment of a national religion and the preference of one religion over another, or religion over non-religion. Some people might consider giving federal money to a religious organization as a preference for that religion.

However, just because this is a religious organization, does not mean that they are pushing religion. If the money ($7 million) is being used to help the kids for non-religious purposes, then it shouldn't be a problem. However they can't discriminate against who they help (jews, muslims, etc) or who they hire as counselors.

"What do you think the odds are that the top people involved in the "ranch" are living large?"

If that is true, then the "ranch" should be audited and the leadership exposed.

There is NO separation of church and state in the constitution.
Supreme Court, Justice Hugo Black, Opinion for the Court, Everson v. board of Education, 1947:

..."In the words of Jefferson, the clause against establishment of religion by law was intended to erect "a wall of separation between church and state."

Just one of many from Supreme Court Justices ruling on cases involving religion and state.

Jatfla, I love the cynicism.

Remember that churches only redistribute the funds given by the people to benefit all, not to make churches look good.
Also, churches don't operate at a loss.

I'm embarrassed by the ostentatious buildings called "churches". It's a shame.

And churches should not operate with accesses. The contributions should go for "the work of the ministry", support for the needy within the Christian community, and the betterment of society. Our churches should follow the instructions of Paul: with food, clothing and shelter be content with these things.

While our church supports missionaries, youth *ranches* such as the one mentioned, seminaries, local humanitarian organizations, students, etc., I'm ashamed to say our Pastor lives in a huge house at the local Country Club.
