I have actually made some USB items myself, pretty much anything that runs off of batteries will run of USB, all you have to do is cut open a USB cable and attach the Red and Black wires to their respective terminals and that's it.

Obviously don't attempt this if you don't feel confident with it, but USB is an intelligent power source so it will only ever take what power is needed so there is no risk of burning out the item.
