rmowery says: I am actually surprised that Pennsylvania did not have more on the list. Coal burning and the ash are such terrible pollutants. If it weren't for all the lobbying firms out there, it might be feasible to shut down 85% of them. The pollution they cause is terrible. We need to find better methods and stop letting those with the $$$ tell us that coal is a clean and renewable energy, since it is not. It is like oil, something we are killing the planet earth extracting from the ground and poluuting our air and water. Amen to that - and we'd better develop thick skins to their whining about how "we" can't afford it. As long as the bill doesn't go to the industry, via cap-and-trade or some system, the cleanup gets paid for by the government. They'd like us to believe we don't have to pay. They're just trying to keep the payment for the damage done on all our backs to protect their own profitability. But it's long past time that products cost their actual cost - including the cost of cleaning them up. Imagine - if we were paying what coal really costs, we'd be in alternative energy overnight. And in the end, of course, we'll pay it - and far more than necessary for having delayed. The cost accumulates every hour the industry avoids it. |
