RecordSage says: And.... here we go... (Joker) Pretty much all the red states have Obama over 40%. America, you look really good tonight. That's irrelevant. The man won and that's that. As for America - we'll revisit a year from now and see just how good it looks. RecordSage, you couldn't be more wrong. What this victory amounted to is a huge mandate for Obama. America has said that they embrace progressive, sensible policy over the policies of hate, isolationism and warfare. This is America standing up and declaring to the world that they are not going to be the nation that has earned the scorn of the world any more. Americans look very beautiful tonight. Democracy looks good on you, folks. It's the same Americans that voted Bush in (twice) because they didn't like Clinton in the end. And they will be the same ones that throw Dems out of the office if they don't perform (and based on pathetic Congress of today - there's not much reason to believe they will perform). I just hope that my fellow Americans realize that jumping constantly between one of two dysfunctional parties doesn't change anything. They both suck. As Obama once correctly pointed out - if you do the same thing over and over - don't expect a different outcome. And we unfortunately keep electing one crowd - seeing it's not working, then jumping to the second crowd and then seeing that's not working jumping ba... My opinion is that I don't care what color he is - he better do what we hired him to do. Ah Skwirl, ever the voice of sound, sensible, non-emotional pragmatism. Looking at both candidates (from an outsider's point of view), I'm with RS on this, "They both sucked". Hold on tight, you're in for a wild ride. If you think things are going to change for the better it ain't. The do nothing democratic congress doesn't have any answers and the president can't do anything without them. Obama will create a few handouts and the people will think he is doing great. Overall the economy is in serious condition and no one can change it overnite. Some are pro-American and some are pro-their ideology. I, for one, will stick with America. To some, this new America (ya know the one he's going to "change"?) will look good to them. Those of us who preferred the more independent, self-sufficient, Founding Fathers America, it doesn't. The first Affirmative-Action President. Sadly my black Republican candidate lost here too. And k...you have an ideology too; it's just different from mine and it doesn't make yours better because you shroud it with "pro-American". So far....at least for right this minute (and discounting the foreign clippers), we're all still Americans. My buddy in Thailand emailed me last night: "Hey, I'm already out - good luck pal". After the party, we're going to wake up in bed with something coyote ugly pinning down our arm, and it will take over 4 years to chew off our arm to get away. I spoke to a guy from Germany last night and he was elated. Just shows how the sheep mentality, hype and most importantly - ideology works. Because if you put on your rational hat (difficult for the left to do, but if) and you consider the situation at hand, in terms of facts - we've had a terrible Congress for the past 2 years, now we elect a man who hasn't really done much, except for speaking well and yet more of the same type of people get elected to Congress, like that's going to change anything positively and the world is in love with this man who has nothing so far to back up this love. What it is is nothing more than deep hate for Bush, dumping anything and everything on him, no... It doesn't compute, except from purely ideological point of view.In a way, this makes sense. Bush II has been the most ideologically driven administration in recent history. People in other countries who have never been overseas tend to view us through the lens of our leaders; we do the same in return. Johann der Klempner forms his opinion based on who's in the White House, not who's behind the white picket fence. How other countries view us is largely irrelevant, since what's important is what's good for the country, i.e. the people behind the white picket fences. Don't forget - there were people cheering on the streets on 9/11... which is why worrying about others opinion on America is utterly useless and counterproductive for its population. Everyone has their own agenda, so should America. Some are pro-American and some are pro-their ideology. I, for one, will stick with America.LOL. Ever the lying idiot. RecordSage said:Oh, that is so very, very wrong. That's the attitude that got America delegated to one of the most hated countries in the world in the past 7 years. Americans should care very, very much what the rest of the world thinks about them because America doesn't exist on an island in an empty... Record Sage, does this look familiar to you: Born in the wrong country. Immigrated to the USA. Now live in the right one...It should, because it's from your own profile. You don't say which country was the wrong one, but obviously, if they were sufficiently antagonistic to the US, you might not have been allowed to emigrate or you might not have been allowed to enter the US. So in your case, how at least one other country views us is far from irrelevant to you. The problem with the attitude you've expressed is tht if you turn your back on everything that's happening outside your own yard, that picket fence might as well be an iron curtain. The wrong country was USSR, I'm not keeping it a secret. And yes, officially it was very antagonistic towards the US and still is, as we've seen many examples lately. And if you must know - we immigrated, legally, and I've been a US citizen (and proud one at that) for the past 25 years. All I was trying to point out is when US is in trouble - nobody gives a damn. So Americans should worry about America first and then about other countries or what they think of the US. It's not a difficult concept to comprehend. As for living behind the iron curtain - don't flatter yourself - you have no idea. It's not just you, of course, it's the whole 'left' in this country. You guys haven't suffere... America doesn't exist on an island in an empty ocean. It is a part of the world communityI couldn't agree more. How about giving Obama a chance. It took Bush eight years to destroy your country. It will probably take Obama more than just one or even two years to undo what has been done. Absolutely the guy deserves a chance. BS about Bush, if you're going to blame anyone for the current economic woes - it's the Congress, but I do agree that Obama deserves a chance. He's coming in with many unknowns and questions, but should be judged on his deeds and since there aren't any - we'll wait. @thisnamecantbetaken - you can try I think it's more Russia, Asia and China you should worry about. (Maybe the EU or OPEC) I wouldn't push my luck, any which way. The dollar isn't what it used to be and the US owes an awful lot of money to, among others, China. And with the current economic crisis and two wars on top of that? The US is broke and running on borrowed money. Ten trillion and counting. That's pretty much the long and short of it. I'm not "trying to do" anything. The US is doing it to itself. We have to remember that RecordSage comes from a place where the tyranny was nominally leftist, giving him an ingrained trust of anything that isn't right-wing it's his comfort. Those of us who grew up inheriting the history of the 20th century sees the right wing as the cause of the Great Depression, whereas the liberals brought us out of that depression, led us through WW II into the greatest era of prosperity in our history until the neocon right took over again in 1980. Talk about distortion of history. Where did you come up with this bologna? Great Depression was prolonged, according to some latest books on the subject, by 7 years due to the 'fixes' instituted by the government. 7 extra years of misery!!! WWII - are you kidding me? You, mr. peacenik... Your appreciation for the troops and the current war is enough of an example. And don't compare yourself to the Democrats of that era. You're no Scoop Jackson by any stretch. And you're no FDR or even JFK. Some deranged reporter compared Obama to JFK. Let's see - JFK was an energizing and excellent speaker. So is Obama. JFK was for cutting taxes... Doesn't quite compare with Obama there. JFK was... |
