All over Australia, Dreaming stories tell of the ancestor spirits who created the land and everything on it.
-----

This is the creation story of Ngiyaampaa country, as well as the land belonging to Eaglehawk and Crow.

Now long, long time ago of course, in the beginning, when there was no people, no trees, no plants whatever on this land, "Guthi-guthi", the spirit of our ancestral being, he lived up in the sky.

So he came down and he wanted to create the special land for people and animals and birds to live in. ..

Fabulous stories! Text, audio and video versions at the source. .

*(Please note that the stories may take a minute or so to download depending on your setup.)

A time-honored tradition that is sadly disappearing.

In America, youth generally do not honor their elders (and in many cases don't even show proper respect). Perhaps if storytelling were still alive this situation would be much different.

There are breakdowns in the Aboriginal groups too. Too much to expect the people to handle such changes as invasions bring. The grandparents, in particular, are attempting to keep the stories alive through the grandchildren.

It's like that with first nations people too. With the passing of the elders not only are the stories disappearing but the language is dying out too.
My granddaughter is taking lessons twice a week at her school (it's for first nations children only), I asked my granddaughter if it would be ok if I talked to her instructor to find out if there is any written material available to help her and she said sure. I think it's important she knows her heritage.

I don't know much about Canada or it's peoples, so I wouldn't really know what to look for, but wouldn't it be possible to maybe find something online like these Australian stories, Tanyamm? One of my favourite things in the world, is to be read to. (I am SO lazy. *LOL* Audio/video preferred.). It would be cool if some where available about the indigenous peoples' creations myths. I'd love stuff like that. .
