I believe the Internet, as an idea many years ago, wasn't terribly difficult to foresee. I'd even go so far to say it was obvious. However, it takes a lot of courage, especially as an established writer, to make such a forecast. Futurists like Alvin + Heidi Toffler were scoffed at for saying the future would be loaded with disposable products. ANd yet, here we are today. I like the name "Telectronoscope": Sounds like something that could be in that comic book, Extraordinary League of Gentlemen! I definitely want to have an album called "Telectronoscope" Interesting to note that Mark Twain was first a hero and later a friend to Nikola Tesla, who would have built some form of world wide web in the early 20th century given the right support. Also check out Teilhard de Chardin's concept of the Noosphere ...another early vision of what would become the World Wide Web. |
