Although this is considered a 'back burner,' issue in the more real world of lying to lead a nation into false wars or the SuperRich & Wall St. speculators ripping off untold trillions the futility and hyprocracy of this always comes around again and again.

The prime illegal use of drugs is of prescription drugs.

One of the drugs that does the most damage to self and society is booze.

The War on Weed is a failure, will always be a failure, and it's main use thus far appears to be to give permission for USA covert wars in Central and South America and put hundreds of thousands of those who might tend to be domestic 'social dissidents,' in jail.

Now, too, it's being added to one of the reasons to kill people in Afghanistan; gotta stop them from growing drugs.

If anyone is seriously interested in reducing interest in drugs then all drug advertising (pot or pills or booze, etc.) should be banned from TV.

If you want to stop drug abuse stop promoting drug use. Try that 'D

Stop making marijuana taboo. That's a great deal of it's attraction. Marijuana is also hardy. Any citizen could grow it. It would remove the criminal element of supply if citizens could grow their own stash.

You are both right. Governments won't legalise it because they don't know how to tax it, except as medicine. The rich use the drugs from Afghanistan, and some would argue that that is why we are there. Americans spend a lot of money on imports from South America, and all countries involved have suffered unwanted protection of these crops by special forces as the CIA tried to impose influence on elections.
People have to target "one line evils" that they think they understand. The Dailies and TV fill in the details with little one line stories that they may remember. Dope is everywhere, so everyone thinks they know about it. Don't understand other things, so they lecture their kids on dope.

In Amsterdam they don't allow the advertising of marijuana: no radio, no TV, no newspaper ads, no posters in shop windows.

Not advertising drugs is not my idea but after starting this topic the more I thought about it the more I wondered: Why the heck is this society allowing drug drench, pills and booze saturated radio and TV advertising.

Maybe it's because we have truly become a non-stop always a war going on society so that it's a knee jerk reaction to think of solving a problem with guns and badges, prison bars and propaganda.

In the Netherlands they also make distinctions between drugs while here it's the Drug War, as if all these illegal drugs were the same.

But Marijuana is not he...
