39% of ALL income taxes are paid by only 1% of wage earners.
86% of ALL income taxes are paid by the top 25% of income earners.
97% of ALL income taxes are paid by the top 50% of income earners.


This is just income taxes. Needless to say the top 50% also pay the most in State Income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, business taxes. And, if you consider a top Conservative wage earner, then they also pull the most weight in tithes and charitable contributions.

doodleicious, judging by the fact that you question the numbers I provided when they are known by practically everyone who is the slightest bit informed suggests to me that you are only wanting to believe what you want to believe, and that is that "the rich do not pay their fair share. Well, who the HELL do you think pays for EVERY DAMN thing in this country. It certainly is NOT the poor. The rich not only pay their share, they pay yours too.

super rich often pay no taxes via sheltering -- poor often pay no taxes because they are, well, destitute-why don't we help the poor out of poverty so they can pay some taxes willhelm? It's why I laugh at this way of categorizing who pays. The middle class gets hurt the most by the tax code as it reduces spending AND savings power. The rich may hate the amount they pay but it hardly affects their lifestyle or their wealth.
