米ペンシルベニア州ランカスター──米東部ペンシルベニア州にあるキリスト教プロテスタントの一派アーミッシュの小学校を襲撃し、犯行後自殺した容疑者の妻マリー・ロバーツさんが、アーミッシュをはじめとする住民の「許しや愛、慈悲」に対し、書簡で感謝を表明した。関係者が１４日明らかにした。

ロバーツさんは書簡の中で、「わたしたち家族は皆さんの愛で、強く求めていた癒しを得ることができた。皆さんの贈り物に、ことばで表せないほど感動した」と述べ、アーミッシュや地域社会の許しが拡大していったことに感謝すると語った。ロバーツさんはまた、事件で心が深く傷つき、アーミッシュに対して申し訳ない気持ちでいっぱいだと心中を吐露したうえで、ともに希望を持ち神を信じて新たな生活を築いていくことを呼びかけた。

容疑者のチャールズ・カール・ロバーツ４世容疑者（３２）は自殺前、９年前の娘の死を契機に神への反発を抱えていたことや、２０年前に親族２人にわいせつ行為をした記憶にとらわれていたことを明らかにした。

事件現場の校舎は住民感情に配慮し、１２日に取り壊された。また、事件の遺族やロバーツさん一家の支援を目的とする基金が設立された。
