The Polar bear is clearly threatened, the big problem they seem to have with the reason seems to be beside the point. Unless it is is to divert the attention from the threat the Polar Bear is to the Oil and Mining industries.
If you wait long enough, the problem will go away. There is no need to classify something as endangered, if it is extinct.
