masbury says: Great graphic. Look for the dark blue to see the change US drilling would make. Wow, nice picture. Poor pelican. It will do us a ton of good. There is enough oil in ANWR alone to free us from ANY Saudi imports for at least 10 years. And just because drilling isn't a magic bullet doesn't mean we shouldn't do it. What we also forget is that once we let the world know that we are serious about actually drilling on our own land, the world will realize what a mistake they have made in letting oil prices get to where they are and will rectify the situation immediately because, although they hate us for being free, they want our money! And these two still cant read and think at the same time. I would try to explain that: a) most of that fuel would be dumped into the oil world markets which control the cost, b) I doubt the world (Wall Street) really cares as long as they reap the profits, c) you can have all the crude in the world but without sufficient refinery capacity it is useless (cars don't run of crude, no matter how sweet it is), d) peak oil, e) where do they get those figures? f) Reading is Fundamental.... jamesgrimes, I still do hear the refrain "They hate us for our freedom" from a few, but I've never seen any evidence that backs it up. In fact, the only research data I know of about what Muslims generally think suggest that they more commonly admire our freedoms, but they mistrust our foreign policy intentions. Can you point me to any evidence that backs up your view? It sounds like urban legend to me. Okay, that went a bit on the extreme side of most muslims, but some do not like the fact that a woman in America has as much freedom has a man. I will admit our foreign policies leave something to be desired, but that is no reason for Usama bin Laden to not like America and then want to destroy us; and more so, the west in general. The web page, http://www.infoplease.com/spot/osamabinladen.html, mentions the following on Usama, "In 1990, in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the Saudi government allowed American troops to be stationed in Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden was incensed that non-believers (American soldiers) were stationed in the birthplace of Islam. He also charged the Saudi re... Right you are! Note especially this sentence: Bin Laden was incensed that non-believers (American soldiers) were stationed in the birthplace of IslamOsama and his followers are convinced that the USA and Israel are conducting a crusade against Islam, and that those soldiers are there to eventually seize control. Every time the US or Israel invades another country, his pitch becomes more believable to potential recruits. Jihad, remember, is a war of defense, not offense; their beef is American military presence in the region. Of course they, they find American mores appalling, but that is simply one more reason they want the USA out of the region. But if you find it appalling that America is there, why not, instead of fighting it, doing what you can to help America and get them out? Working it out is so much better than fighting! I certainly do favor getting out ASAP, on a fixed time-line (in Iraq), and am working toward that end, which I believe would be in the best interest of America, of the region, and of the world. |
