Your clip, John, has presented me with a quite unexpected Jungian Synchronicity.
Even perspective seems distorted; there's no discernible vanishing
point. If the walls close in, so the dark seems to open out, both
unfolding and enveloping.
"How It Is" almost begs the question, "How what is?"

I believe the answer is Death.

"How It Is" appears, to me, to be an externalization of the "Death" environment in which Miroslaw Balka was immersed in his formative years, penetrating his thoughts processes.

The influence of great writers, Dante, Joyce, and most definitely, Samuel Beckett, whose 1961 novel, "How It Is" accounts for the name of the piece, is also clearly evident in Ba...
