boniface says: Amazing. In just one run-on sentence this journalist puts down a whole religious group. I wonder if he wouldn't mind Christianity being classified as, "A bunch feeble-minded, accept anything on faith alone, middle age, polyester clad, big haired, no life sheep." Hey buddy, stick to your topic which is Harry Potter and stop putting down religious groups. I'm wicca! I do not dye my hair a funny color! And I am not obese! (I wouldn't discriminate against your religon . . . so why mine!) And, anways Wicca was one of the first religons on this earth! And you can't say I'm against christianity. I'm buddhist/wiccan/christian. I'm skwirldom er...skwirlian and, anways Wicca was one of the first religons on this earth!Ummm..... No. Wicca is only around 60-70 years old. The "Old Religion" theory has been debunked by modern scholars for a good 20 years or more. "I'm wicca! I do not dye my hair a funny color! And I am not obese! (IAre you directing this comment to anyone in particular? Are you directing this comment to anyone in particular? No. I'm just saying not all Wiccan people are like that. I mainly just see that in the movies I watch. You know the ones like 'Snow White' Where the Witch is green, and ugly. Folkloric stories like that. And little kid movies. I seen one just a couple of days ago like that. But, I never seen the name. Unfortunately. It's like saying 'all muslim women wear burqa.' or 'they wanna bomb us all'. Which is not true. You can't streotype. Ummm..... No. Wicca is only around 60-70 years old. The "Old Religion" theory has been debunked by modern scholars for a good 20 years or more.I never heard that beofre. Because I read in a Tarot book, and Runes book that I have (which both are connected to Witchcraft) that the religon has been around ever since neo-lithic European times. I never heard that beofre. Because I read in a Tarot book, and RunesRead "Triumph of the Moon" by Ronald Hutton. It's actually about the history of Wicca instead of runes or tarot. Because I read in a Tarot book, and Runes book that I have (which bothWitchcraft & Wicca aren't synonymous. Wiccans are witches, but all witches aren't Wiccan. Also, runes and tarot are something that witches and Wiccans LIKE to do, but they are not an integral part of the faith itself. Many books use as their reference sources the classic books that have not been updated to the current history. So make sure you don't rely on just one source. I recommend http://wicca.timerift.net, as well as the book recommended above, as excellent sources. Witchcraft & Wicca aren't synonymous. Wiccans are witches, but all witches aren't Wiccan. Also, runes and tarot are something that witches and Wiccans LIKE to do, but they are not an integral part of the faith itself. I'm a bit more expirenced now. I exchange the words Wicca, Wiccan, Witch, (witchcraft) alot whenever I'm explaining it. Especially to non-Wiccan people to explain what the religon (since I am religous in that sense) is about. That it isn't about worhsipping the Abrahamic Satan. I said that Runes and Tarot are connected to Witchcraft because it is used alot. (I use them in spells and for divination.) I'm am not very good at explaning things though! -.-' Super8, you're growing, but have a long way to go. In addition to Hutton, I reccomend Margot Adler's Drawing Down the Moon. I just srated Wiccan about . . . maybe a year or two ago. But, i have always been atteacted to it since I was little. I never really 100% followed the religon I was brought up as. And anyways - I'm only 14, to be honest. I'm a bit more expirenced now. I exchange the words Wicca, Wiccan, Witch, (witchcraft) alot whenever I'm explaining it.You'll find that to be a problem in the Wiccan/pagan community, as we do make distinctions between Wiccan witches and non-Wiccan ones. Wow - I havn't been on here for such a long time. Now I have to catch up with all of these comments - and I still have to fiqure something out that I'm going to post! Is the show Charmed Wiccan friendly? I rather enjoy it. Even tho the demon fighting part is fantasy I think that the core elements show Wiccans in a favorable light. To be quite honest, I've never seen the show (don't have cable). Haven't really heard anything bad about it, it's just pretty cutesy. |
