zasel says: It is hard to believe that in these so called "days of enlightenment," two of our major television and news networks refuse to air ads for condoms. The days of young men guiltily approaching the pharmacy counter and whispering to the pharmacist that they want a box of condoms has been over for at least three decades. Yet Fox and CBS still imply there is something dirty about purchasing and using a product that not only prevents unwanted pregnancies, but has been proven over and over again to protect couples from acquiring sexually transmitted diseases. I don't know if these two networks are just kissing the asses of the Bush administration who believes sex is a four letter word, or if they are just so behind the times that they do not see the ridiculousness of their position. But someone should really make it their business to drop by the home offices of these two public servants, and explain the facts of life to them. I wish Mamma Bush had used a condom. LOLOLOL! TNCBT. *Debby now knows the reason why she hearts TN* ROTFLMFAO Are you kidding?? Nobody has sex. If we don't talk about it, it doesn't happen! Must.... not.... talk.... about.... sex..... Oops... I am talking about it, so somebody somewhere just did it. Darn it! Well, of course, I'm glad they don't. I'm sick of watching the erectile dysfunction commercials, scantly-clad women selling motorcycles. You know, I sometimes watch TV with my grandchildren and some of us would rather NOT watch that kind of crap. You've got the rest of the Media and the entire internet. How about some differing options? Besides, that old business about 'safe sex' is a joke. That's not what it's about and all know it. Do you get Nick At Night Jatfla? I used to watch that with my kids. Well put Debbyski. Jatfla, why do you or others who think as you do, believe that sheltering our children from the natural facts of life protects them in some way? One of the prime reasons for unwanted pregnancy, rise in abortion rates, and most tragically, the tremendous increase in sexually transmitted diseases is ignorance. We work so hard at protecting our children from the proper and educational knowledge they need that the only choice they have is to discover all these things totally on their own, secretly and with no competent adult with whom to confer. Instead of treating these subjects as dirty or taboo, perhaps if you did not show embarrassment when these ads appeared on televi... I thought the issue was 'ads' and I confess that I didn't read the entire article; and no, they don't watch Nick at Night. Too young. Jatfla, I didn't really mean to come down so hard on your comments. I know how much your grandchildren must mean to you. As a parent, it fully understand the desire to protect our children from anything and everything we might consider harmful. It is just that I have come to learn that we cannot protect them from everything, and that sometimes our desire to do so actually wreaks more problems than we wish to protect them from. But your motives are certainly not suspect at all. why do you or others who think as you do, believe that sheltering our children from the natural facts of life protects them in some way? One of the prime reasons for unwanted pregnancy, rise in abortion rates, and most tragically, the tremendous increase in sexually transmitted diseases is ignorance.I do not view it as sheltering my daughter from the facts so much as sheltering her from society's presentation of those facts. Is it not possible for parents to educate their children about worldly things instead of letting the world do the talking? I do not agree with society deciding how and when I need to expose my child to things I feel are immoral or indecent or too advanc... bignosemousie, please understand that I too find many things shown in the main stream media to be offensive. I just have a real problem with censorship of any kind. I am grateful that with today's technological advances, there are ways of guiding our children in a direction that enables them to view and be exposed to material I consider to be more appropriate. I also was primarily responding to the refusal of those two networks from airing condom ads. This is an area in which I feel more exposure is necessary. Too few teens that are foolish enough to be engaging in sexual activity are actually using them, hence the rise in unwanted pregnancies and STDs. As far as your concerns about q... Zasel, I'm no advocate of censorship, by any means. I was merely responding to your nicely asked question. why do you or others who think as you do, believe that sheltering our children from the natural facts of life protects them in some way.I wish you well, too. I believe the young people of our times are very well aware of condoms, what they're for, and the results of what can happen if they do not use them while having sex. I don't believe for one minute they are ignorant. I believe they have been aroused by the constant barrage of sex from every crevice of our society, coupled with the rampage of hormones, and a lock-down on self-control, to where they don't *care* about the consequences or believe that they will have any. After all, if a baby comes, they can always have an abortion or the government or parents will help care for the baby. And within a segment of our culture, it's a brownie-point to have babies. I appreciate your thoughtful ... Mousie, excellently stated. POP! Mousie, if I could pop my own clips, I would give you one right now for your very thoughtful comments and reply to my clip. I thank you for taking the time to discuss this item with me and the others. Zazel, You are always so kind in all of your comments to others. It's a rare quality. I adore you. debbyski, I have always found it easier to make my point whenI try to express it from a point of view that others can relate to. Sometimes, as I am sure you know, it isn't easy, and I have had my moments of exasperation, and lost my cool. But for the most part, I engage in Clipmarks and other such forums as a means of discovering interesting topics and ideas; having the opportunity of learning how other people think and why, and also having the chance to express my own views. It is a give and take educational experience at best. I have never been adored before. Thank you. I have never been adored beforeWell, you are overdue Zazel! You seem to come from a long line of livers, so good on ya! I wish I could say the same for my family; heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholersterol is heriditary on both sides. But I exercise, don't smoke, and jog and lift weights so that helps. Give your Mom a kiss for me and tell her that she raised a loverly son |
