It remains motionless unless there is enough wind to move the surrounding leaves. The much smaller males can fly giving them an extra line of defense, but the females’ only defense is to remain undetected.</p> <P>Many specimens have varying amounts of "decay spots" to resemble an insect-damaged or diseased leaf.
