I bet it does make sense to you.

Yes, yes does. Get a license, buy your weapon, use it legally. Seems pretty straight forward.

I think that we should license anything that can be used to produce printed material. Freedom of the Press is at least as dangerous as freedom to own firearms.

I think also that it is nice of the federal government to keep this out of the hands of states. Clearly the states are doing it wrong, since the states with the most relaxed gun laws are also the ones with the least crime. Those people in places like Maine, North Dakota, and Vermont should really be forced to get licenses. Living in a state with increasing crime and strict gun laws, I am really just annoyed at those damn rednecks in their low crime states.

Anything that makes it easier to transition America into a big government, socialist state is fine with the left.

Oh please. The big goverment thing has being going on for the last 8 years. But oh noes, don't touch the guns. BTW, do you have stats to back your statements gh or are you simply throwing talking points in the air?

And democrats won't be happy until the government is so big that it is full blown socialism. The right to keep and bear arms is a constitutional right. I know democrats only care about the constitution when they are trying to make it say something it doesn't, but some of us believe it is what has made this country so great.

The left has gone after freedom of speech and the right to keep and bear arms and Obama hasn't even been in office a full month yet. What's next?

Oooh, socialism...scary!

How are you prevented from owing a firearm? How is your right abridged?

And what is this about freedom of speech?

And also the whole canard about large goverment. Do you know what is the largest part of the goverment?

So called "defense" spending. But you can't touch that, oh no.

Also the question should not be about how large is the goverment, but whether the goverment works or not. In fact if you look at the history of failed states, they are failed states in large part because they do not provide basic services to their citizens and allow wealth to concentrate on the very top impoverishing everybody else.

Failure to provide for the citizens full needs (those that goverment can tackle, of course) leads to the rise of criminal organizations and radical political movements who take the place of goverment.

An unarmed and easily cowed peasantry is always a condition for the imposition of totalitarian rule. Which is why the founders of this country wanted to make sure that armed opposition to tyranny would always be available to the citizens - power is in the hands of the people, not the state.

Anything the government can license, the government can revoke. Love how the liberals want to restrict conservative speech but not liberal speech or how they want to require a license to exercise your constitutional right to keep and bear arms yet are opposed to requiring proof of identity to vote.

Especially some assholes that aren't even US citizens, ranting from their backass country, complaining about ours and telling Americans what's wrong with our country

Remember folks mandatory is only mandatory as long as everyone agrees. If no-one goes along with it as in just ignore it what could they do? forcibly disarm around 200 million or more Americans? I don't think so somehow.
