photowriter says: I grew up as a fundamentalist Xian X= Greek letter chi for Christ. I have read several of Tom Harpers books and have found him to be one of the most honest Anglican Priests I have ever met in book and person. What we find now is that the literal interpretation of the Bible is producing a very dangerous culture, focused in the US where military culture and war are often seen as part and parcel of the religious right's political theology. I'm not sure how someone who denies the existance of Jesus Christ can be a priest or even a Christian, but Britian is strange. Jesus Christ did, and does exist. Do I believe that his life on Earth happened exactly as reported in any of the Canonical Gospels? No, but they are reports of four different WITNESSES, and witnesses can get the details wrong. What is important is that it is only through Christ that any can recieve salvation and not how long his ministry was or whether he was married or who his Beloved Disciple was or any other similar question.(s). have you ever read "the gospel according to Jesus Christ" by José Saramago? I think it is well worthy, even it is just fiction and it is not based on any kind of theological or religious studies. However, it's not Bible's fault if men use religion to justify their war policies. It always happened, generally the major powers' believes had been objects of manipulation, in order to create an ideological base for others' exploitation. And moreover, -sorry, I didn't express my thought entirely. I'm not sure how someone who denies the existance of Jesus Christ can be a priest or even a Christian, but Britian is strange. I think he can. As you said, details are not important. I suggest you that even Christ's existence could be considered as a detail, facing up the revolutionary strenght of what Christ's message in this world has been. Actually, what he said regarding human beings and salvation couldn't be linked only to his life. This peaceful message would have to go over man existence - it's for this reason I think it should be related to Christ figure no more. Check out www.sofn.org.uk Clipped a bit of this today, responding to a mention in an earlier clip of Don Cupitt, a 'strange' and influential UK theologian. true true photowriter, but you also need to look at the various interpretations and the various bibles and history too. I think he can. As you said, details are not important. I suggest you that even Christ's existence could be considered as a detail, facing up the revolutionary strenght of what Christ's message in this world has been.Christianity is about fixing a person's relationship with God, which will then fix our relationship with others. And we fix our relationship with God thru Jesus, specifically thru his death and ressurection. So Jesus' existance... Honordale I would first like to clear up some confusion. Tom Harper is a Canadian Anglican Priest and is highly respected by all but the fundamentalist christians, and even some of them who know him. Second You quote the Bible as if it were a charter, a manuscript of absolute truth. That is you treat it the way a lawyer quotes law in court. The problem is that the bible is far from being anything like that. The present bible is a compilation of the writings that pleased Constantine who in competing to be the only Roman Emperor (as several were contending, read warring) for the job. The Council of Nicea threw out all sorts of books that were candidates for inclusion in the Bible. Thos[b]... |
