Submitting the winning bid at an auction Tuesday, Meadows is on his way to owning the stately three-story brick house at 523 E. Main St., which served as home to this city's senior citizens programs.

Yielding to concerns over maintenance and repair expenses, city officials decided to sell the Juilliard Center house. This decision was made despite pleas from the nonprofit Juilliard Senior Center, which asked city officials to keep the house because of its historic significance here.

"I have been involved with this seniors' group who has been at odds with the city of Louisville," Meadows said. "My involvement was working with them to come up with a plan to preserve this house. My concern was to keep control of it. I did not buy it for myself; I didn't buy it for an investment."
