JICWyllie says: The change required is much simpler, and costs no money. Just go on a spending strike and a travel strike. When money is short, its the time to stop spending (and borrowing), outside absolute necessities. Spend quality time on family and neighbors. Till some earth near you. Make it more fertile. Engage with nature. Agree, but the solving is in getting people in 2008 to change their lives. The equine flu outbreak in Australia recently effected a lot more people working in the industry than I'd thought there were. A walk through the airport looking for people who work there also would surprise. Most of these could retrain in a short time for other jobs but would need to have one hand on the first paycheck or change would be resisted. There will be changes which will improve the planet. The cost of buying carbon credits will make air travel less popular for all but the rich. Nothing in creation needs money. I believe part of our evolution is realizing this & as things continue to worsen it will really come down to doing the right thing. |
