wildcat says: Prof. Robert Emmons studies gratitude for a living as Professor of Psychology at UC Davis and is Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Positive Psychology. He has just published Thanks: How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier, an interdisciplinary book that provides a research-based synthesis of the topic as well as practical suggestions. This dull brain enjoyed the clip interesting site. deb , i'll take a dull brain like yours anyday.. That is the ultimate compliment coming from you Wildcat Gratitude cannot be cultivated. That is materialist thinking and it is impossible for gratitude to exist in a materialist mindset. I guess you could cultivate contentment and thankfulness, but gratitude is an anti-materialist condition and would by nature be mutually exclusive. Look at Materialist philosophy throughout history. Where in it do you find gratitude? You do not. You find the opposite in resentment, envy, authoritarianism and contrived equality. I would think a Dr. of Psychology would be aware of this and my guess is that he is aware of it and that is why he is engaging in post-modernist hypothesis lobbing. Yes, if you pigeonhole everything into your narrow interpretation of Materialism then yes. But since gratitude and thankfulness are synonyms, I guess you have proven yourself wrong yet again! I have the broadest view of Materialism there can possibly be. However, you, in your profound ignorance, once called ME a Materialist. So, stop with the pretense that you even remotely understand anything on my level. I know you like to try but you just embarrass yourself. However, I will suppose that your critique of my supposition is correct and retract my supposition. Clearly only cultivation of contentment would be likely. Bad memory there, never called you a materialist. And for clarification, your narrow view is not of the concept of Materialism (which in itself is over broad, blaming all evils upon it), but of reality. I stand corrected. You cannot possibly, as evidenced by past comments, have even the most remote sense of the scope or breadth of Materialist Philosophy and Cultural Materialism. So, I will chalk your criticism up to your usual display of some acute complex. Ssshhh - feel the heat ...
