Interesting.. I think the biggest blocker to legitimately buying online music is the credit card, as well as the availability of stores and the restrictions they place on what you can do with the music you buy.

I mean, for one thing, if you bought a CD< you could rip it to your MP3 player, computer, friend's computer, etc, and nothing will stop you (unless the CD has some copy protection, but Sony learned the hard way that that is a BAD idea).


Kids don't have credit cards, and though stores like napster, rhapsody, etc are there and allow subscriptions to download almost any of their almost 1 million tracks to your mp3 player, you still need a valid credit card to buy it.

"gift cards" and the like are no good either, when a teen or anybody for that matter wants a song, they aren't going to run down to the shopping mall, buy a gift card, go back home, enter the complex 30+ character code to download a friggin song.. nope.. they'll just open up Sharaza (or the like) and download it for free...

what is the option then? well, paypal allows you to connect a bank account to your paypal account, but it often takes up to 3-5 business days for the transaction to process. who wants to wait that long?
