However, I would wonder: is it really productive to try to refute passion with evidence? Engaging young earth creationists in scientific debates is very odd to me, since they are clearly people not particularly interested in scientific reasoning. One should remember that they are apologists posing as scientists, and as such, are only interested in evidence in so far as it supports their own predetermined positions.

What is more, given its strong Judeo-Christian context, I feel that there is little risk of the Young Earth argument spreading beyond its religious confines, so in a sense, it will only appeal to those who already believe in it. Engaging the argument seems to introduce an idea into the scientific discourse that otherwise belongs squarely outside.

Nevertheless, I can understand the temptation, and this one is worthy of a pop, at least to entertain those of us who can appreciate it.
