No. Lecturers in general are ok. What needs to be treated with the utmost caution is a cultural studies lecturer from any place, especially the UK.

I am sure that Christchurch is a very good place for a day out if you take adequate precautions. There have been some scare stories from the media about small and ferocious animals in New Zealand but I suspect these are greatly exaggerated and largely fictional accounts designed to increase circulation of newpapers such as the Daily Mail.
