Avast is better than AVG I think, though I some time wonder why do we need anti-virus programs now a days.

I'm going to download Avast today. Does anyone have any advise, warnings, or encouragement?

ClamWin all the way!

The only anti-virus I allow on my personal computers, both because it doesn't interfere with performance at all that I've noticed, and it's open source!

(I also heard somewhere about a possibility that AVG was dropping it's free version? Can anyone confirm or deny?)

Does ClamWin work with Firefox? I guess if I download one and am not happy, I can install something else.

There's no warning for Avast, Dorine. I prefer it 10 over the anti-virus from ZA Security suite, and it does catches the nasties.

The nicest part about it is the Web Shield.

Try it and if you don't like it, there are alternatives.

Good luck.

OK, I installed Avast. So far so good. Didn't realize we've been running without anti-virus software I'm the only one who ventures out into cyberspace.

I've had a firewall with my DSL provider.

I need to ask someone about clearing my cache. Do I need to clear it? Is the "Clear Cache Button" addon ok to use? I've been surfing without protection, so I'm concerned what's there. Is the cache the same thing as temporary files in IE?
