They have some strange customs in China. popped for weirdness and bizarre factors. Bit of romanticism "buried" somewhere in that though.. Posthumus marriages have been part of Chines culture for at least 1,300 years. Once case from around 875 CE involved a betrothed woman who died as an indirect consequence of her fiance's shady dealings. He was ordered to marry her posthumusly and honor her as his first wife until his own death. Wow. Creepy. yipes! Where to start? OK. No. 1. "Strangling young women to serve as ghost brides" -- where, oh where, does the brutality to women stop? Proof #multi-quatrabazillion that there is no god (or not the benevolent, watchful one we like to imagine, anyway. Wake up, dude). No. 2. Do these people give a damn about the young WOMEN who die unmarried? Of course not. They're nothing without the guys, I guess. Which segues quite nicely into No. 3. Has anyone told the Mormons about this yet? They marry off dead people all the time, whether they were already married or not. A lot of them go to Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Actual corpses could ease the burden for all those proxies ... they could spend more... |
