fudzzz says: *Sigh* Such good memories. And some frustrating ones. You will be missed. Goodbye my friend. *Salute* I have got loads & loads of tapes....I got started on the whole cd thing really late...anyway now that songs are available online, it doesnt make sense to have either one around I liked making mix-tapes back in the day Pop for an old friend of mine too. Fair thee well audio cassette! Sigh...the last of the audiophile mediums. The challenge was always matching BIAS,EQ and record levels to your tape. With a clean, virgin vinyl import LP transfering it to tape was considered an artfirm by many myself included. Next they'll be telling me Elvis is dead. ; ) Speaking of Elvis.. I almost saw him... then my shovel broke. ROFL! Can I pop this again for BBW's comment? Oddly enough I don't think it will be the end of the cassette. I think someone with a good eye for business will keep making them and they will be more expensive to get compared to when they were widely available. I know I will still buy some at least because my son loves to play with a tape recorder and record his own voice. I loved it to as a child and many of my friends did as well. There will be people who will still by them for their own reasons. I agree that nostalgic paraphernalia will never entirely disappear, and people will definitely capitalize on this dying market. But in truth, I also feel that the cassette is now utterly useless, even for voice recording purposes. Those toys will be upgraded and soon your child will be recording his voice onto an I-Pod like contraption, or a blue-ray disk, etc. Truly gone are the days of the cassette. I have a bunch of them that I have still kept over the years and I will also keep. They take up quite a bit of room, but hell, call me sentimental. I can't let go. (I've stuck a Def Leppard tape into my car's stereo and play it sometimes when I'm sick of listening to the CD) Speaking o... I looked at Wal-mart.com the other night just out of morbid curiosity and they are still selling tape recorders. Being a big kid now my son uses a real tape recorder and not a toy anymore but he still has two of the toy ones... I should donate those. =) I am not sure CD's will be going out although I do have to admit I have stopped using them for data storage with the arrival of double layer DVD's. I also stopped using them for music with the purchase of an mp3 player which I take everywhere with me pretty much. If it hasn't been done already I think now would be a good time for someone who has lived with these things to write a book about it. It may not be a big success ... What's a cassette tape? Is that like one of those VCR thingies? |
