Sex ed came into being because kids weren't getting the necessary information to protect themselves. If parents treat sex as a taboo subject at home they are likely not to have their children attend a sex ed class.

<P>As parents, we're used to signing permission slips for a range of activities. But if a <A target="_blank" href="http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/186/ht00pdf/ht00472.pdf">new bill passes on Beacon Hill</A>, we will also sign permission slips for sex education.</p> <P>Kids would not be required to take it if parents don't "opt in" and sex ed would be offered only on an elective basis. Right now, parents write notes if they want their kids to "opt out" of sex ed.</p> <P><STRONG>Would requiring parents to sign permission slips for sex ed get parents more involved? Would it lead to better communication between parents and kids about what is -eh- a delicate subject?
