Normally, celebrity opinions don't register with me. But in this case I find it interesting that two close brothers could be at such political odds. Alec, totally favours same-sex marriage while Steve quotes the bible. Oh well, at least the fundies can't talk about the incredible lack of morality in Hollywood. All they have to do is look towards little Stevie Baldwin.

Oh good grief!
So little Mr. tight ass gets "religion" after 9/11. Now he feels he has to "attack" gay marriage. He needs to get a life!

Here is what Barack Obama has to say about sanctimonious fools like Steve Baldwin.
I will tell you that I don't believe in gay marriage, but I do think that people who are gay and lesbian should be treated with dignity and respect and that the state should not discriminate against them. So, I believe in civil unions that allow a same-sex couple to visit each other in a hospital or transfer property to each other. I don't think it should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state. If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more centr...

Lemme tell you why I do believe in gay marriage; because it is a basic human right and a personal choice.
Here are the comments from the 1960's of one interracial man and woman:

This sort of marriage is not in the best interest of children.”
“God has a plan for marriage and this isn’t it.” “Allowing
this kind of marriage will pave the way for all sorts of moral depravity.”
Allowing gays to get hitched will not destroy the institution of marriage . . . and therefore the nation, the world, the planet, the solar system, and the whole damned universe.

"Promoting hatred and bigotry in the name of God is what destroys
society, not the marriage of two loving people of ...

the more unpopular I will become of course. But I know you understand why I have to say what I have to say.

Deb, you know I agree with every word you say. The reason that I am pleased to see people talking about either marriage or civil unions, is because just a very few years ago, the entire concept of something as simple as civil unions was laughed at and scoffed. Now that people who are still uncomfortable with same-sex marriage are agreeing to embrace civil unions we see that such a tremendous evolution has taken place that would not have been considered just a very few years ago. Progress is being made, and in my view, fairly rapidly as well.

He has the courage to speak his convictions knowing full well that he will be ridiculed for 'finding' Jesus and being a "fundie". I read his book. He is no goodie-two-shoes. But he is a Christian who happens to believe the Bible.

Interesting that it was his brother who made Steve's "anti-gay political views" an issue.

Jatfla,
If he had "found" Jesus? He would not be worrying about gay marriage. I'm glad he wrote a book about his personal experiences though and I hope he at least gives the money to a good cause.
Peace.

Whatever you say...I'm sure Jesus is just fine with it; just like he was with adultery, hypocrisy, divorce, murder, bearing false witness, stealing, immorality, lying, self-righteousness, etc. s/off

Rest.

Well,
You do bring up an interesting point Jatfla. It is indeed significant that in all His public denunciations Jesus Christ never once mentioned homosexuality. He railed against divorce, adultery, cold-heartedness, moneygrubbing, and hypocrisy. But, even though homosexuality existed in His time, He neither condoned nor condemned it. In fact, He didn't say one word about it.
Surely, if homosexuality were the evil evangelicals say it is, Jesus would have had left us some clear, strong, unmistakable message. He didn't and He must have mad a conscious decision not to. It didn't just slip His mind.
But listen, those who want to put Jesus on the sidelines can indeed find a bag of goods wit...

Well said as usual Deb. Gays and Bi's have been treated like shit by many in the evangelical community. But if they really believed in God, they would not behave in such a manner, because God created man and woman in his own image, not in the image of shit.

Homosexuality was abhorrent among the Jewish community in ancient times. It was a for-gone conclusion that it was an unacceptable sacrilege. However, among the Greeks and Romans, well...that was a different story. It was widely practiced, even among their emperors.

Done here. I had just noticed that it was Alex that had brought his brother's religious faith and it's doctrine up for evaluation....or apparently so from whoever 'pinknews' is.

That is true Jatfla, there are tons of no no's in Leviticus, such as getting a haircut or trimming your beard, eating pork, wearing clothing made of two different kinds of material, planting two different crops in the same field, and approaching the altar of God if you have any particular eye defects.
I think Steve Baldwin is entitled to his particular interpretations of Scripture, but I think maybe Alec finds his opinions narrow at best and used to discriminate against a whole group of people and he feels that is wrong and he should speak to that.
But you bring up another interesting point and that is that Roman society strongly disapproved of lesbianism while remaining relatively tolerant ...

What it means to follow Jesus surely causes a deep division Lance. To me, it is a personal and political one; it's a road that is narrow and hard. It's a wise way and not a foolish way; it's from bondage to liberation. My values are precious to me and emphasize compassion, justice, and peace. Practice is more important to me that "correct" beliefs, so I save those precious commitments to speak out against injustice, homophobia, discrimination, empire, and greed. So we are on the same page with the fact that distortion tends to more than annoy me also.
