I wonder if they do anything to help homeless folk now.

I think we could probably use some advice from people that have experienced homelessness or still are. They can tell us how to live of less.
Perhaps the 'streetpapers' that are sold by homeless can make special editions in which tips on how to live of less, interviews with famous (former) homeless people and needs that ought to be incorporated in the new (political, social, financial) system.
If there comes a time where the general public will really starts to panic, the homeless could turn out to be among our saviours.

PS i.m.o. Jesus could be added to the list of former homeless persons.
