Review of 'Operational Consciousness'. Noble, H.(2005) by clipper Pat Parslow. Pat's stuff has introduced me to some specific research and theory on consciousness, AI, learning, symbolic representation etc. I guess he is an academic, I'm not. But I rely on academics to do the spade work (wahey!), Also, specifically, it seems to me there is amazing opportunity for this relatively specialised stuff to crosscut fields relating to cognitive and evolutionary psychology, semiotics and my own major interest at the moment - the place of brain mapping of visceral body states as the function of conscious feeling in an undifferentiated 'mind'body-other' continuum. I should add that it also has direct relevance to teaching and learning, is pragmatically textured.

He's a wannabe academic Well, doing a PhD in Machine Consciousness, applied to personal digital learning agents, and hence involved in virtual learning environments, pedagogies, learner modeling, semiotics, ontologies, folksonomies (so Clipmarks is work), sociology, psychology and, of course, AI and general computer science.
