disenchantedcitizen says: By passing legislation without having read it congress is falling victim to the old bait and switch scam. What they end up voting on is someone else’s interpretation, i.e., synopsis of the legislation before them without being informed of everything that is in the bill. An awful lot of pork can be passed into law by the unscrupulous author of a bill who can be bought by lobbyists to include enticements for themselves into a bill that doesn’t get read by the signer. As far as this ‘pledge’ goes, it is the highly naïve person who thinks signing it will have any positive impact. The ethics and common sense of their position already dictates that they know what it is they are voting on. That's how Republicans slip fascist crap into law, by attaching them to unread bills. Scary actually. They vote then write the bill. What is to stop them from putting in anything they want. dorkfarce, do you even know what fascism is or are you just repeating something stupid you heard on Kos? Here is fascism my friend: "Fascism" is a term that was originally coined by the Italian dictator Mussolini to describe his adaptation of Marxism to the conditions of Italy after World War I. Lenin in Russia made somewhat different adaptations of Marxism to the conditions in Russia during the same period and his adaptations came to be called Marxism/Leninism. Mussolini stayed closer to Marx in that he felt that Italy had to go through a capitalist stage before it could reach socialism whereas Lenin attempted to push Russia straight from semi-feudalism into socialism. Mussolini's princip... And where did Hitler get the idea of Germany as a biological organism? It falls, not under the theory of the universe, but under the theory of organic life... No living thing can have its organs offset against each other, as checks, and live". And American Leftists still often characterize the constitution as a "living" thing to this day. Like Wilson, they use such language as an excu... Popped for dorkfarce's dumb comment. I use Fascism in the proper modern form, to represent unfair authoritarianism, the end result of the Right Wing movement, as they try to control the thoughts and actions of their fellow citizens while giving themselves more and more power. Fascism has nothing to do with Marxism. If you studied the history, you'd see that it was a misdirected label by people who didn't truly understand what was going on. The term Fascism applies to any action that enforces authoritarianism on a populace, for whatever reason. It isn't reserved specifically for either wing of politics, although it has a greater affinity for the right wing because that wing has a greater tendency to abuse its power. In reality, ... |
