Conscious boredom (waiting for a late train etc) v. 'existential boredom, the latter unconscious, a sense of underlying ennui and unsatisfactoriness that the conscious mind tries to escape from with diversions, (divertissements', Pascal). What Baudelaire identified as the greatest evil monster, ennui: it happened to me last night in a dire draw between Liverpool and Wigan, preceded only hours earlier by being exposed to the worst film of all time, "i am legend".....but enough! The article's drawing attention to boredom and its twin, frenetic activity, suggests they are attention deficit disorders. The concept of purpose coheres around an inner peace and centre of stillness which allows for the beautiful mindfulness of the present moment. In contra...

Boredom is defiantely a self-induced state of mind. Usually stems from complacency.
