Capsicum (the "active" ingredient in peppers) has numerous medicinal properties. It not only relieves a sore throat, but it boosts your immune system causing you to heal better and faster.

For me, it is an allergy triggered sinus infection that brings me down. At even the slightest sniffle (which happens more in summer than winter) I do one of two things:

I either order several quarts of thai or chinese hot & sour soup...or I make my own concotion which is basically onions, garlic, chicken stock, cayenne pepper, hungarian hot paprika, red pepper flakes & crystal hot sauce....I'll throw in mushrooms, rice, beans, etc...to give it a bit of solid nourishment, but primarily I need the broth....

Aaaah. The site's down. What's the recipe? I am suffering from a sinus headache (day 3) and I am going to New Orleans this weekend. I don't want to be sick while I'm there.

Thanks for your info, 2qrscom. I'm going to have hot and sour soup for dinner.

I'll post tomorrow on my findings.

Bignosemousie - the site seems to be working. But here are the ingredients from the article

"My Recipe
I don’t think there is really a science to this thing as if you read around there are tons of different recipes and all seem to have very good results. So here is what I did to make my cayenne sore throat elixir.

1 standard drinking glass of hot to warm water
1 teaspoon of cayenne powder
a couple pinches of salt for good measure (most people say its not necessary but it won’t hurt)
That’s it! Just simply take a mouthful and gargle away. There are two things that I want to point out though. One you will need to constantly stir the elixir ri...

My sore throat remedy:

Heat a cup of grapefruit juice in the microwave. Add a heaping teaspoon of salt and stir until dissolved. Gargle with this until all gone.

However...the hot-and-sour soup remedy sounds much tastier - I will try that!

Alright, my results.

Last night I filled a large plastic cup with hottish water. I mixed in one teaspoon of cayenne pepper. I then threw in a tiny bit of salt (because it said so).

I had all sorts of nostalgia from my childhood. Who knew my mom was not actually punishing me by making me hold a spoonfull of cayenne pepper in my mouth. She was just trying to make me healthier.

Anyway so my results were not spectacular. I'm not saying this doesn't work, it just didn't for me.

A few thoughts on why.

It may be that I tried this a bit too late in my sore throat/sick cycle. While i did feel a bit of the edge removed from my sore throat. I cant say it was horribly tangible. Plus I on...

Thanks for the update rainfever.

I ate as much hot and sour soup as I could stomach (it wasn't too spicy so I added a bunch of cayenne pepper). I can't say if it was responsible or not, but I felt better the next afternoon, and today I finally feel normal. (after 4 days). So thanks to 2qrscom!

as I know from a book titled " Avoid Addiction to Medicine " that laryngitis or sore throat can also be caused by infection, smoking, excessive speech, breathing hot air, consuming too hot food or drink. For further treatment of sore throat, Pennasia Normalization is the way of natural treatment for normalizing the process of reaction happening in body optimally so that the sufferer could get well naturally.
