On Reed’s first day in the classroom 35 years ago
she was disturbed when she noticed that her
smartest student was sitting in the back of the
classroom, not paying attention. She came to find
that he was working on an elaborate pencil
sketch of a graveyard, and on one of the
headstones was etched the phrase “In memory of
those who died waiting for the bell.” From that
moment on Reed knew that she needed to make
