So, what's the glue that binds? Obviously history, money and religio/political connections, but there seems to be some hidden agenda/voodoo that never quite sees the light of day. Are they the US proxy presence in the region that's our only trump card against regional domination by sectarian states that are hostile to the West? Oil at risk? It's never totally clear to me. Help!

I'm also conflicted by US actions like the Iraq War and others ( I love this country, but not some of the actions it takes) Activism and voting seem to be the only "civilized" avenues for objecting to the powers-that-be.
Consistent bad behavior requires amendment or repercussions. Say bye-bye W and take your legacy with you.

Why? The US has geopolitical interests in the Middle East. (They would like to control all the oil in that region.) Also, the US government is saturated with Zionists and receives HUGE donations from Israeli lobby organisations, who buy them off.and therefore they get to decide US foreign policy. War is also a great profit maker. The US gets to sell lots and lots of bombs and fighter jets etc. Also, the misled masses of American Christian Evangelicals think *we* need to conquer ALL of Palestine, (some want every city ever mentioned in the Bible) so that the stage can be set for Armageddon.

Did I leave anything out?

Also, a great deal of the US government are either Zionists or Jews themselves.

I just read this headline in one of the Canadian daily newspapers;"Canada opposes condemning Israel" Country only one of 47 on UN human-rights council to vote against stern motion. We've gone from a nation being known for its peace keeping and human rights to this. I am very ashamed of my Prime Minister at this moment.

when you see "God On My Side" you will conclude that there is a very bizarre/unreal mid America belief led by Christian Evangelicals that the end of THE WORLD runs parallel to the end of ISrael.

@Richclips777 - It seems your question has been answered.

thisnamecantbetaken's summary mentioned most of the big reasons, I think.

It does seem weird, doesn't it? Some hidden agenda/voodoo that never quite sees the light of day.

We are suppose to believe that support for Israel is unanimous and unquestionable. Israel is our "ally."

These ideas, though, are just a myth. Or call it effective propaganda, so pervasive it's like the air we breath.

American politicians apparently feel if they oppose this uncritical support for Israel they won't get elected.

The "hidden vodoo," is making politicians believe that. And backing it up with campaign contributions, votes, and non-stop lobbying, c...

wow, reading these comments remind me why I stopped using clipmarks for so long.
i'm going to speculate for a moment and assume that after this post the same
conspiracy theorists,
ideological socialist,
theological militants,
anti-theists, and all the others that Finally find common ground can all hide behind real criticisms (like I don't like war) and will all agree that I equate what you do as the same as criticizing a country.
Distinctions need to be made.

Indeed they do. But there is a huge difference between criticizing a country and criticizing a government. It appears there's much more open dissent toward Israeli government actions in Israel, by Jewish people than there is in the USA.

Just as some in the Pentagon estimate that up to half the deaths of US soldiers in Iraq are results of reaction to Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, nothing is more suicidal for Israel than giving its enemies unnecessary reasons for hatred. Abuse always produces blowback.
