I knew a guy who called his dog 'Charles' - I like not-so human sounding names for pets! I have friends with a dog named Harold. I like people names for pets, there's less chance of someone's pet having the same name, but that doesn't always work. My son's dog is named Chelsey, and I've met another pet by the same name. And My pup is named Phoebe, Another person in my bldg says his mother's dog is named Phoebe. George is a common name but mostly for cats. We have four dachshunds: Scoop, Kaiser, Grace, and Giuseppe. My girlfriend wants to get another and name her Wednesday, but I think four is enough. My 10-year-old dog's name is Sadie. Her dear old brothers Johann and Rufus both died last year, of cancer and old age, respectively. I like dog names that have some dignity to them yet aren't to be confused with common human names. Throughout my life I've met many people whose dogs (or horses or cats) have the same name as me--Ginger! I feel for you Ginger. Years ago I was in a provincial park and I heard someone keep calling my name and I wasn't that far from them. So, I turned to them and said in an angry voice what? (I'd never seen them before) They laughed, said sorry, we were calling our little dog. At least the dog was a cute little spaniel puppy. I eventually want to get a companion puppy for Phoebe and I'm going to name her Tallulla Jane. Phoebe's second name is Ellen. |
